Pelvic Health, Getting Started

If you’ve ever wondered why you leak a little when you sneeze, feel pressure “down there” at the end of the day, or struggle with your child’s ongoing bedwetting or constipation—you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. These are common signs of a pelvic health issue, and the good news is: there’s help.

As a Pelvic Health Physical Therapist, I specialize in helping women and children reconnect with their bodies, restore function, and feel empowered—whether it’s healing after childbirth or helping your little one stay dry at night.

Let’s dive into what pelvic health actually means and how you can start your journey.

What Is Pelvic Health?

Pelvic health refers to the strength, coordination, and function of the muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that support your pelvic organs—like the bladder, bowel, and uterus (or prostate). These structures are responsible for so much more than we give them credit for.

Your pelvic floor helps with:

  • Bladder and bowel control

  • Core strength and stability

  • Sexual function

  • Support for pregnancy and delivery

  • Posture and breathing

When things aren’t working quite right, you might experience:

  • Leaking urine (even just “a few drops”)

  • Constipation or incomplete emptying

  • Pelvic pain or pressure

  • Pain with sex

  • Bedwetting, frequent accidents, or constipation in children

These symptoms are common—but they’re not normal and they’re definitely not something you have to “just live with.”

How Do I Know If I Need Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?

If you’ve ever been told:

  • “Just do some Kegels.”

  • “That’s just what happens after you have kids.”

  • “You're getting older, what do you expect?”

  • “They’ll grow out of it eventually.”

…I want you to know that there’s more we can do—and there’s no shame in seeking support.

Pelvic floor physical therapy is an evidence-based approach to help retrain and strengthen the muscles that support bladder, bowel, and sexual function. We focus on your whole body, daily habits, and even emotional stressors that could be contributing.
