Toddler Soccer: What Our Saturdays Really Look Like (and How I Keep Up as a Twin Mom)

Soccer season is here, which means our Saturday mornings have officially been claimed by sunscreen, oversized jerseys, and a whole lot of toddler chaos. If you’ve ever signed your little one up for toddler soccer, you know the truth: it’s less about drills and goals, and more about snack breaks, clinging to mom’s leg, and kids running in every direction except toward the ball.
And when you add twins into the mix? Let’s just say there’s never a dull moment.
But here’s the fun part—I’ve realized these soccer mornings are as much about me as they are about the boys.
Toddler Soccer: Reality vs. Expectation
Expectation: Kids running drills, learning teamwork, scoring goals, parents cheering on the sidelines.
Reality: At least one kid refusing to step onto the field, another wandering off halfway through (umm, whose idea was it to set up right next to a very distracting & cool water fountain), and a whole lot of parents shrugging at each other with “yep, same here” faces.
It’s messy. It’s cute. And it’s absolutely worth it.
For me, managing two toddlers at soccer means doubling the snacks, the water bottles, the sunscreen, and the gear. Basically—it’s a traveling circus, and I’m the ringmaster.
The Mom Side of the Field (Pelvic PT Confessions)
Here’s the part I didn’t expect: these mornings have been a check-in with my own body, too.
We’re at the field for a couple of hours, which means I don’t always have easy access to a bathroom. Old me would have made a “just in case” bathroom stop before we left. But now? I’ve learned to trust my bladder and my body, and I can confidently wait until we get home.
I even jogged alongside the boys during practice—and had zero leaking. That might not sound huge, but not too long ago, I wouldn’t have been able to do that.
These moments remind me of why I practice what I preach as a pelvic health physical therapist. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress, strength, and trust in your body.
Soccer Essentials That Save My Sanity
If you’re heading to the fields this season (especially with littles), here are a few of my favorite game-day essentials:
THE BEST Zip Bags for All the Things → Snacks, wipes, and a change of clothes each get their own bag.
Stainless Steel Water Bottles → Toddlers somehow drink more water during soccer than any other time. Durable, spill-proof (ehh, are they ever really spill proof) bottles are a must. We like these AND the designs are so cute!
Sunscreen (my favorite brand) + Hats → Chasing toddlers in full sun is no joke. We lather up before we leave the house.
A Big Tote or Wagon → Twin mom survival tool. One trip from car to field or bust. I’m partial for the X-Large Lands End Tote. With two kiddos, I needed the extra space & it fits EVERYTHING!
The Bigger Picture
Whether the boys spend practice kicking the ball or chasing butterflies, these mornings are a reminder: showing up matters. Laughing through the chaos matters. And trusting my body to keep up—without leaks or pain—matters too.
If you’ve ever worried about bladder leaks holding you back from soccer practice (or anything else), I want you to know—you’re not alone. And you don’t have to just live with it.
